What each service charges with and without an Ontario health card, how you speak to the clinician, when it is open, and what it says it can do. Every figure was read on the service's own website on 18–19 September 2026.
The short version. With a valid Ontario health card, several virtual clinics will see you at no charge and hospital-run virtual urgent care is free. Without one, published per-visit prices run from $39.99 to $82, and two services sell a monthly membership instead of charging per visit. Documents are extra at some services and included at others. Prices move, so every table here carries the date it was read.

⚠️ Two services publish figures that need checking before you rely on them. Rocket Doctor's Ontario page and its no-OHIP page give different prices for the same live text chat, $74 and $59. TELUS Health MyCare's Ontario page says app doctor appointments ran until 8 April 2026, a date now passed, while its national doctors page still lists $70 a visit. Confirm directly with either service before booking.
These are funded services, not businesses. They are the first place to look if you have an Ontario health card, and two of them will see you without one.

Everything here was read on the service's own website, not taken from another comparison. The rules:
Checked and not included: Cover Health's site now states "Cover Health services are no longer available, find care by Specialty via our partners", and what it still offers is condition-specific. CloudMD's virtual clinic is closed, and the site it directs patients to redirects to Tia Health. Livecare operates through doctors' offices, with clinics listed in British Columbia. MCI, now part of WELL Clinics, publishes physical clinic locations but no virtual pricing. KixCare provides nurse-led paediatric care and publishes "$59 per visit" for a single-child visit, but it is children-only, so it sits outside this comparison.

Of the services checked on 18–19 September 2026, Ogaei Care published the lowest per-visit price at $39.99, though it requires a membership from $9.99 a month, so a single visit is about $50. MD Connected charges $50 a consult with a nurse practitioner, Tia Health starts at $55, Rocket Doctor charges $65 for a video visit, and Doctor Fran is a flat $82 with documents included. Your Doctors Online sells subscriptions from $20 a month instead. Check the current price before booking.
Yes, with a valid Ontario health card. Tia Health and Virtual Health Clinic state that visits are free with one, Appletree bills OHIP for its physicians' virtual visits, and Maple offers OHIP-covered general practitioner visits to Ontario residents who complete an intake form outside Maple. Hospital-run virtual urgent care through Toronto's Virtual Emergency Department, Urgent Care Ontario, SickKids and CAMH is provided at no charge, and Health811's nurse line is free and open 24 hours a day.
The East and North East Region Virtual Care Clinic states that patients without a health card "are still eligible to register and receive care". It covers Ontario Health's East region, from Pickering to the Quebec border and Kingston to Pembroke, plus the North East region, and runs seven days a week from 1pm to 9pm with nurse practitioners. CAMH says people without an OHIP card can still book, with alternative billing arrangements, and Toronto's Virtual Emergency Department says you may continue with your appointment if you do not have an OHIP card.
Some do. Tia Health states that "Doctor's notes are $55 with a health card and $69 without a health card", and Ogaei Care charges $9.99 a note with its membership. Your Doctors Online includes sick notes in its subscription, and Doctor Fran includes documents in its $82 consultation. The East and North East Region Virtual Care Clinic cannot issue sick notes at all.
Some are. OHIP covers medically necessary virtual visits delivered by video or telephone for insured patients, which is why several services are free with a valid card. Rocket Doctor states it has been "no longer able to offer video appointments to OHIP patients" since 1 December 2022, and offers OHIP patients a paid live text chat instead, while its specialist and substance-use clinics remain free with OHIP. Maple and Your Doctors Online both state 24/7 availability. MD Connected runs weekdays 9am to 8pm and weekends 9am to 5pm, and Ogaei Care Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 11am to 3pm and Sunday 10am to 2pm. Among the free services, Toronto's Virtual Emergency Department and the East and North East Region Virtual Care Clinic run 1pm to 9pm, SickKids 9:15am to 9:30pm, CAMH Monday to Thursday 11am to 7pm and Friday 9am to 6pm, and Urgent Care Ontario's adult service 10am to 6pm on weekdays. Health811 is available 24 hours a day.
Several state that they can. Rocket Doctor says its clinicians "diagnose, prescribe medication, handle refills, write lab requisitions, order imaging, and more". MD Connected lists lab and diagnostic requisitions sent to your preferred lab, Maple lists lab requisitions at a practitioner's discretion, Your Doctors Online lists lab requisitions and referrals, and Doctor Fran issues requisitions where clinically appropriate.
